Studies begin for first batch of mini-grid proposals
10-01-2018
Applicants for the mini-grid project under the National Electrification Project are being broken up into three batches, with the feasibility of the projects to be assessed.
A total of 83 proposals were submitted for the 2017-18 project mini-grid project by the 30 October 2017 deadline. Nine of the 83 proposals were rejected by the evaluation committee for being inconsistent with the rules.
The remaining 74 proposals are to be divided into three batches for assessment purposes. The first batch consists of eight companies with 12 proposed projects.
Officials and experts from development partners will evaluation the proposals.
The list of the batch one companies only is below. Of note, type 1 indicates a proposal decided by the company, and type 2 is following a recommended site from the National Electrification Project.
The World Bank has approved $400m in loans for Myanmar electrification, of which $90m is under the Department of Rural Development, mostly for rural electrification. One other similar mini-grid tender has been successfully completed, with financing coming from the Department, the implement companies and from the local villagers.
